An Answer to the Crisis of Black Teen Boys

Detroit, MI (BlackNews.com) - Rev. Dr. James C. Perkins, founder of the Benjamin E. Mays Boys Academy, has responded to the national crisis affecting Black teen boys. In Playbook for Christian Manhood: Twelve Key Plays for Black Teen Boys, he has compiled a game plan for Black males ages 11-15 that supplies twelve essential lessons that will take them from young boys to men of integrity and godly character. Rev. Perkins offers these young men:

* An outline of life's key "plays" including identity, purpose, and spirituality
* Approaches to financial responsibility, relationships, sexuality, leadership, and more

This playbook offers basic formation, blocking and pass strategies, and a view of the goal line!

Some statistics on African American teens:

* 16.4% of Black teens have carried a weapon(1)
* Among 10 to 24 year-olds, homicide is the leading cause of death of Blacks(2)
* Only 8% of young Black men have graduated from college(3)
* Young Black men represent over 40% of the prison population(4)

What People Are Saying About the Book:
