Asian American Studies at the U Illinois-UC Hiring

Announces Three Tenure-Track Positions

 

The Asian American Studies Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for three tenure-track positions, all with a starting date of August 16, 2005.

The Asian American Studies Program is the largest of its kind in the Midwest.  Founded in 1996, the program offers an undergraduate minor, an average of 10 to 12 courses per semester, and has 18 teaching faculty members located in and across three different colleges.  Asian Americans comprise about 13% of the undergraduate population at the university.  The University of Illinois is approximately 140 miles south of Chicago, 120 miles west of Indianapolis, and 170 miles northeast of St. Louis.  For more information about the Asian American Studies Program, please visit: www.aasp.uiuc.edu.

For all three positions, scholarly excellence and commitment to Asian American studies are our primary criteria.  We are also interested in candidates with a demonstrated concern for innovative undergraduate and graduate teaching.  Salaries will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Professor/Associate Professor, Asian American Studies.  We seek a mid-career scholar who has already produced scholarship of significance.  The position is a full time, tenured position, and the successful applicant will be appointed at either the Associate Professor or the Full Professor level.  The person hired will be housed either exclusively in the Asian American Studies Program or jointly with another appropriate campus department or unit.  We invite applications from scholars in all disciplines.  To apply, please send a letter of application that includes a concise teaching and research statement, a vita, samples of publications, teaching evaluations, and letters of reference from three scholars to: Kent A. Assistant Professor, Southeast Asian American Studies.  This is a full time, tenure track, Assistant Professor position in Southeast Asian American Studies.  Applicants in any field of the humanities or social sciences are invited to apply.  It is expected that the person hired will be appointed jointly with Asian American Studies and another appropriate campus department or unit.  We invite applicants from all disciplines to apply.  Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. by August 16, 2005.  Please send a letter of application that includes a concise teaching and research statement, a vita, samples of publications, teaching evaluations, and letters of reference from three scholars to: Susan Koshy, Search Chair, 1208 W. Assistant Professor, Asian American Applied Community Studies.  This position is devoted to applied research and/or outreach scholarship focusing on social issues and processes within and/or across Asian American communities.  The position is a full time, tenure track, Assistant Professor position.  It is expected that the person hired will be appointed jointly with Asian American Studies and another appropriate campus department or unit.  We are particularly interested in building new strength in applied fields of social science, including: community health, community studies, counseling or community psychology, human development and family studies, sociology, gerontology, kinesiology, public policy, and social work.  Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. by August 16, 2005.  Please send a letter of application that includes a concise teaching and research statement, a vita, samples of publications, teaching evaluations, and letters of reference from three scholars to: Aaron Ebata and Poshek Fu, Search Co-Chairs, 1208 W.
