Census 2000 Final Pacific Islander PopulationsGuam, American Samoa, Northern Marianas
On Tuesday, July 3, 2001 the Census Bureau released a series of final population totals from the 2000 indicating that the larger of the U.S. Pacific territories had experienced sizeable growth not unlike the many Asian-Pacific American populations on the states. Following are the final counts for American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas in total and by district. CB01-CN.175 - Census Bureau Releases Census 2000 Population Counts for American Samoa
The U.S. Census Bureau today released the official Census 2000 population count of 57,291 for American Samoa. As part of Census 2000, the Census Bureau worked with the American Samoan
government to collect detailed population and housing data. The American Samoa's population increased by 10,518 over the previous census in 1990. This represented a 22 percent increase in 10 years. The Census Bureau will provide more detailed data for American Samoa in a demographic profile scheduled for release later this year and in a separate summary file and printed report, scheduled for release in February 2002 and November 2002, respectively. The U.S. Census Bureau today released the official Census 2000 population count of 154,805 for Guam. As part of Census 2000, the Census Bureau worked with the Guam government to collect detailed population and housing data. The count was provided to Guam Gov. Carl T.C. Gutierrez. Guam's population increased by 21,653 over the previous census in 1990. This represented a 16 percent increase in 10 years. The Census Bureau will provide more detailed data for Guam in a demographic profile scheduled for release later this year and in a separate summary file and printed report, scheduled for release in February 2002 and November 2002, respectively. The U.S. Census Bureau today released the official Census 2000 population count for the Commonwealth of 69,221 for the Northern Mariana Islands. As part of Census 2000, the Census Bureau worked with the commonwealth government to collect detailed population and housing data. The count was provided to Northern Mariana Islands Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio. The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands population increased by 25,876 over the previous census in 1990. This represented a 60 percent increase in 10 years. The Census Bureau will provide more detailed data for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in a demographic profile scheduled for release later this year and in a separate summary file and printed report, scheduled for release in February 2002 and November 2002, respectively.
