Black College Wire - A News Service for (and by, and about) Black Students

EON Member Profile

A Project of the Black College Communication Association

Black College Wire is a news service established in 2002 to promote the journalistic work of students at predominantly black colleges and universities and link those young journalists to training and employment opportunities in the field.

The news service is a project of the Black College Communication Association, an organization for faculty members teaching journalism and mass communications at black colleges and universities. Black College Wire partners include The Maynard Institute for Journalism Education and the North Carolina A&T State University.

The project is funded by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, a Miami-based foundation that promotes excellence in journalism worldwide and invests in the vitality of 26 U.S. communities.

The news service reinforces the training that students receive in the skills and principles needed to produce quality journalism. It also provides a regular news report reflecting black college life that is available to campus and other news outlets, and links students to training and employment opportunities in journalism and related fields.

The news service site is free and readily available on the World Wide Web. Stories may be picked up from the site and should be credited to BlackCollegeWire.org.

Learn more about this invaluable resource dedicated to helping young journalists practice, refine and apply their skills, and to sharing little-represented news and perspectives of young people on college campuses across the nation, at: BlackCollegeWire.org
